Mom, 7-year-old daughter killed when their car slams into school bus, Louisiana cops say
A mom and daughter were killed when their car slammed into a stopped school bus, Louisiana police say.
Katelyn Granger, 29, was driving a Honda CRV when she hit the back of a Jackson Parish school bus that was stopped to let a child off just before 4 p.m. on March 8, Louisiana State Police said in a news release. Granger and her 7-year-old daughter, Anna Rivers, died as a result of the wreck.
Police said Anna was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene. Granger was restrained and was taken to a local hospital where she died.
Two of Granger’s other children were in the car, police said. They had minor injuries and received treatment at a local hospital.
The school bus driver was not injured, and all of the children on the bus were either uninjured or had minor injuries, according to police.
Police said they don’t think impairment was a factor in the crash, but the cause is under investigation.
Friends shared tributes to Granger and Anna on social media.
“Fly high,” one friend posted on Facebook. “Dude I just can’t believe this. Man life is too short to take for granted.”
“Anna sweet girl it was a joy to know you prissy, bossy, but sweet and happy little self,” another loved one wrote in a post. “You will be missed baby girl by so many.”
“Still in disbelief,” another person posted. “You’ll be forever missed babygirl.”
Jackson Parish is about 190 miles northwest of Baton Rouge.
