A Missouri man scratched off what he thought to be a $1,000 win, but he was “floored” when he learned that the prize was much bigger.

When scanning his winning ticket, the machine told the man he had won the top prize of $100,000 from the “20x Crossword” ticket he bought in Fulton.

Confused by the machine, he took another look at his scratcher. “That is when I realized I missed two words: react and turnover,” he said.

Prizes in the game increase with the more words players’ tickets match, lottery officials said.

The winner said he plans to pay off his debt and save money to buy a home.

Fulton is about a 100-mile drive northwest from St. Louis.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
