Dog in shelter for nearly 400 days keeps getting ghosted in TX. ‘Someone show up’
A young dog who has spent far too much time in animal shelters is still on the hunt for a permanent home with the help of a determined Texas shelter staff.
But potential adopters keep standing her up.
Meet Dolly, a boxer mix with massive eyes and an even bigger heart. While she has been patiently waiting for someone to finally see her, staff has been showering her with love and affection.
“This is Dolly, wrapped up in her blanket and soaking in some love from one of our most familiar staff members, Mark,” the Humane Society of Southeast Texas in Beaumont said in a Sept. 29 Facebook post.
“Dolly has been with us 399 days. Before that, she spent a full year in another shelter. She’s only 4 years old—meaning at least half of her life has been spent behind kennel doors.”
While she is a people-loving pup, she has a little trouble with getting along with other animals. Dogs? Maybe. Cats? Big fat no. Her pet profile says that she would probably do best in a home where she’s the only pet. This may or may not be a factor in her having trouble finding a family, but one thing is for sure, she has no shortage of support around her.
“We don’t know how Dolly ended up in a shelter… but we truly don’t understand how she’s still here. She’s sweet, gentle, and so ready for a real home where she can be the one cuddling on the couch instead of in a kennel,” the shelter said.
“She has an eye for fashion and loves playing dress up, she’s just as happy on a walk as she is lounging around the house.”
The agonizing part is the hope that is given to Dolly and the shelter staff when it comes to a potential adoption, only for it to be ripped away.
“The hardest part? Her last adoption appointment was just a month ago—and it was a no-show. Before that? Six months earlier,” the shelter said. “Another no-show. Please, someone show up for her. Dolly deserves a family that means it.”
Dolly is vaccinated, spayed and microchipped and is ready to go home at a moment’s notice.
