SC’s Harrison raises more cash in August than Graham did in three months in Senate race
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jaime Harrison raised $10.6 million during the month of August in his bid to unseat three-term Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham, according to his campaign.
The amount is more than what Graham raised during the second quarter of this year. Graham brought in $8.4 million in April, May and June combined.
Graham’s campaign has not released its fundraising totals for August, figures that are not due for reporting until mid-October.
Harrison’s fundraising haul came in a month that brought his campaign good news, particularly in the polls of the U.S. Senate contest.
A Quinnipiac poll found the Graham and Harrison were tied at 44% each. Graham’s campaign cast doubt on that poll arguing that it under-surveyed Republicans in the state.
Earlier that week, a Morning Consult poll had Graham up only by 1 point.
And the Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan political ratings publication, moved the race from “Likely Republican” to “Lean Republican,” saying the race in the reliably Republican state is growing more competitive.
Both Graham and Harrison have raised tens of millions of dollars for this race, most of it coming from out of state. As of June 30, Graham raised more than $30.9 million, and Harrison raised nearly $29 million for this election cycle.
