Graham, Harrison to face off in three televised debates airing around South Carolina

Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and his Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison are scheduled to face off in three televised debates that will air around the state.

The debates, scheduled for October, will last one hour each and come as a higher amount of people are expected to cast absentee ballots ahead of election day amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Debates are scheduled for:

8 p.m. Oct. 3 at Allen University in Columbia, moderated by Judi Gatson of WIS, in conjunction with The State newspaper. The debate also will air in Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Charlotte, Augusta and Savannah.

7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the WSPA studios in Spartanburg moderated by Amy Wood of WSPA, in conjunction with the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. The debate also will air in Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Aiken.

7 p.m. Oct. 21 at SCETV’s studio in Columbia moderated by Gavin Jackson of SCETV and Thelisha Eaddy of SC Public Radio, in conjunction with the Post and Courier. The debate is scheduled to air statewide.

“We are pleased that these three statewide debates will provide the people of South Carolina with a robust discussion of the issues at stake in this election,” said Graham campaign Communications Director T.W. Arrighi. “The policy differences between the candidates are vast.”

Both campaigns have raised tens of millions of dollars, most of which has come from outside of the state, and have spent millions in television advertising. A poll last month released by Quinnipiac University had the race tied at 44% of support a piece.

“Though we disagree on many issues, South Carolinians deserve to hear directly from their leaders about the urgent issues facing them, especially in this time of increased economic and public health uncertainty,” Harrison said.
