More than $1M raised in SC governor’s race in 2022. Here’s who raked in the most

Democratic candidate for governor Joe Cunningham had his best fundraising quarter since kicking off his campaign last year.

But the $403,000 he raised in the first three months of 2022 trailed incumbent Republican Gov. Henry McMaster’s $607,000 haul in the first quarter of the year.

Cunningham’s total haul for the cycle is now $1.7 million. He has $536,000 cash on hand, according to a report his campaign filed with the State Ethics Commission.

“I am incredibly grateful for the support we have received throughout this campaign,” Cunningham said. “People in South Carolina are ready for a governor who is going to offer real solutions to the problems facing our state, and that’s exactly what this campaign represents.”

McMaster has raised more than $5 million this campaign cycle.

He brought in more than $607,000 during the first quarter and had $3.2 million cash on hand. Between October and December of last year, McMaster raised $915,000. From July through September, he brought in more than $1 million.

“The campaign’s growing war chest and massive grassroots support will drive a successful McMaster-Evette reelection campaign, and it will help conservative Republican leaders up and down the ballot in November,” Mark Knoop, McMaster’s campaign chairman, said about the joint ticket of McMaster and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette.

State Sen. Mia McLeod, D-Richland, who is facing Cunningham in the June 14 primary, has yet to release her quarterly financial report.
