Man with machete locks Domino’s workers in freezer and tries to start fire, NC cops say

A man with a machete locked employees in a freezer while he tried to rob an Asheville Domino’s, police say.

One of the employees there called police saying that a man armed with a machete was inside the restaurant on Patton Avenue, according to the Asheville Police Department.

The man, 29-year-old Curtis Andrew Wallace Jr., had locked the employees in an office and then locked them in a freezer while he tried to break into the safe, police say.

He also kicked two of the workers, according to police.

While the employees were still stuck in the freezer, police say Wallace tried to start a fire in one of the restaurant’s ovens but was unsuccessful.

Officers got to the Domino’s, and Wallace tried to run away but was eventually taken into custody, police say.

Wallace is charged with five counts of first-degree kidnapping, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, five counts of communicating threats, three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of simple assault and two counts of injury to personal property, police say.

He is being held on a $400,000 bond, jail records show.

Police are still investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information call the police department at 828-252-1110 or Buncombe County Crimestoppers at 828-255-5050.
