“One student complained of soreness” from the crash, police said, but the rest of the Beck Academy students were unhurt.

The driver of the car was trapped and had to be cut from the convertible, police said.

Police charged 62-year-old Dennis Wade Allen, of Greenville, with following too closely, the department said Wednesday afternoon. “Allen’s 1993 Mazda Miata suffered significant damage following the accident,” police said.

“Initially, Allen was entrapped, but he miraculously survived the collision with only minor injuries after being extracted from the vehicle by Greenville City Fire Department personnel,” the department said.

Greenville police said the crash happened at about 8 a.m.
