Man answering doorbell finds newborn baby on his porch, South Carolina police say
A baby was abandoned on a South Carolina porch and police need help finding who did it, media outlets report.
The owner of the Cherokee County home told police his doorbell rang Saturday morning and when he answered it, he found the newborn baby girl wrapped in a blanket on his front porch, WYFF reported Tuesday.
He told police that he immediately took the baby to an emergency room, FOX Carolina reported. She was then taken to Spartanburg Medical Center, where doctors determined she was premature.
Doctors say the baby weighed less than 5 pounds and was likely born between 35 and 36 weeks, WSPA reported.
She’s now in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Social Services, WYFF reports.
Investigators say they have “exhausted” all leads and are asking for the public’s help finding the person who abandoned the baby, FOX Carolina reported.
Anyone with information is asked to call Captain Daniel Ward at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at 864-489-4722 extension 119 or to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC, according to WSPA.
