After a cop was gunned down, SC man offered to buy ammo to kill police, officials say

Just after a police officer was shot and killed at the Florence Regional Airport, a man in the South Carolina city threatened police online and offered to buy ammunition for anyone who wanted to kill cops, officials said.

Florence Airport Police Officer Jackson Ryan Winkeler was shot and killed during a traffic stop Sunday. Police arrested a man from Florida and charged him with murder this week.

Florence County deputies arrested Karl Pace Mayo III on Wednesday for making the threats and charged him with breach of peace and violating the Computer Crimes Act, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Following the murder of Florence Regional Airport Police Officer Jackson Ryan Winkeler, Mayo is alleged to have posted a threat to law enforcement officers on social media by offering to purchase ammunition for anyone who wanted to kill law enforcement,” the sheriff’s office said Friday morning.

Mayo was released on a $1,558 bond Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.

James Edward Bell, 37, faces multiple charges in connection with the killing of the Florence airport officer. Police found the slain officer with his gun missing and 30 bullet shells near the body, according to arrest warrants.

Bell was arrested nearby and had the officer’s gun with him, The State reported.

The funeral for Winkeler, 26, was held Thursday in Florence.
