Man wins big in South Carolina lottery. ‘And I plan to keep playing,’ he says
A South Carolina man is closer to retirement thanks to a lottery win.
The man bought a $2 Lucky for Life ticket at a convenience store on Asheville Highway in Boiling Springs and picked his numbers, according to a Monday release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.
His ticket matched five of the numbers drawn on Jan. 13, only missing the Lucky Ball number, which was 17, the release says.
He claimed the prize on his day off and chose a one-time payment of $390,000 instead of the $25,000-a-year for life option, according to the lottery.
“It’s not enough to walk away from work now,” he told lottery officials. “But I’m debt-free.”
His odds of winning the prize were 1-in-1,813,028, according to the lottery.
“I’ve played the game for years,” he told lottery officials. “And I plan to keep playing.”
The S & J Mart, where the winner bought the ticket, got a $3,900 commission for selling the winning ticket, the lottery says.
Lucky for Life is a “multi-state game” and has drawings on Mondays and Thursdays, according to the lottery.
