Driver who hit school crossing guard and sped away was just arrested, SC cops say

The driver who hit a South Carolina school crossing guard and sped off in January has been arrested, police say.

On Jan. 24, a surveillance video caught the driver hit a crossing officer outside of Charleston Charter School for Math and Science after the officer had just finished letting two students cross toward the school, McClatchy News previously reported.

The driver continued pushing forward despite the officer’s “pleas to stop,” eventually speeding off and leaving the guard with minor injuries.

Police arrested 26-year-old Shareatha Monique Generic Price on Thursday and charged her with disregarding a school crossing guard directing traffic and leaving the scene of an accident with minor personal injuries, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

She was driving a Honda Civic with paper tags at the time of the incident, and police found the vehicle was registered to someone on King Street before arresting Price, the sheriff’s office says.

“We thank everyone who helped spread the word and share the video and images,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
