These cupcakes are South Carolina’s best, Yelp says. What to know about the treats
A Columbia-area bakery was named the best place to get cupcakes in South Carolina — so prepare to indulge.
Lita’s Treats is the top-ranking spot in the state to eat cupcakes, the restaurant review website Yelp said Thursday, Dec. 9.
The shop, which has locations in Columbia and Irmo, makes gourmet cupcakes for birthdays, weddings and other celebrations, according to its website. Many of the cupcake flavors, including banana pudding and strawberry shortcake, are nods to other popular desserts.
On Yelp, some customers raved that the cupcakes were moist with tasty frosting, helping the shop earn its 5-star rating.
Lolita “Lita” Lindsay decided to start the business in 2014, and her red velvet cupcakes soon caught on. The business has sold over 25,000 cupcakes while branching out into other goodies, including cheesecake and cinnamon rolls, according to its website.
These days, customers are craving iced gingerbread cupcakes, which the shop in a recent Instagram post said “may be our new bestseller.”
To determine the best cupcakes in South Carolina, Yelp said it “identified businesses in the cupcakes category, then ranked those businesses using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews.”
Though Lita’s Treats is a favorite among cupcake fans, the bakery recently fell short of being named Yelp’s best place to get desserts in the state. That honor went to the frozen treat shop Off Track Ice Cream in Charleston, McClatchy News reported in February.
Still, Columbia is no stranger to getting recognized for its sweets.
Last month, Yelp ranked Silver Spoon Bake Shop the state’s top place for cookies. In reviews, customers raved about the cookies but said they also couldn’t get enough of the brownies, biscuits and other baked goods.
