This South Carolina town ranks as one of the best for travelers with pets. Here’s why
South Carolina is home to one of the nation’s most pet-friendly travel spots — so bring your furry friend along, new rankings show.
Mount Pleasant ranks No. 4 on a list of places offering some of the best amenities for furry friends, according to figures published on March 31.
“Pets are members of the family, so travelers are eager to bring them along for the ride as they explore the U.S.,” Rob Palleschi, CEO of Motel 6, said in a news release.
The motel chain said it created the nationwide list after evaluating Mount Pleasant and other places across the country. For each city, the study considered several factors, including access to pet-friendly restaurants, veterinarians, “dog parks, greenspaces and hiking trails.”
“One city was chosen for each state, and the Top 10 list was compiled based off those finalists,” a spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.
Mount Pleasant — a Charleston-area town of about 90,000 people — is no stranger to earning national recognition.
In November, Mount Pleasant was named among the nation’s “top boomtowns” due to its population and job-related growth.
The year before, the town received a nod for having one of the fastest growing economies in the United States, McClatchy News reported.
On the latest list, the highest ranking tourist destination for road trips with pets was Santa Monica, California. Rounding out the top five were Rockville, Maryland; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Newport, Rhode Island.
