Craving brunch? This South Carolina restaurant ranks among nation’s best places to eat
South Carolina is home to one of the nation’s best brunch spots, new rankings show.
SELECT Restaurant in Greer made a list of top places to eat the late-morning meal, according to restaurant review website OpenTable.
To create the rankings, OpenTable said it studied restaurant scores and nearly 13 million “verified” diner reviews left between March 2021 and February 2022.
“The overall score is made up of unique data points, such as overall diner rating, user klout, total number of reviews, and regional overall rating,” the website said in an April 20 news release. “Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of reviews, for which ‘good for brunch’ was selected as a special feature.”
The rankings were released ahead of Mother’s Day, when almost half of people with plans to go out for a meal say they will be craving brunch, according to a recent OpenTable survey of more than 12,000 participants in the United States and Canada.
Of the 100 restaurants that received national recognition, SELECT Restaurant was the only one from the Palmetto State.
On the reservation platform, some diners raved about the eatery’s customer service and brunch items, which range from eggs Benedict to chicken and waffles. The restaurant roughly 15 miles northeast of Greenville takes special care when deciding which foods and drinks it offers, according to its profile on the OpenTable website.
“Choose the appetizer, entree, seasonings and sides that give you the meal you want,” the restaurant said on its website. “Or, you can choose from an array of special courses designed by the chef to provide the ultimate dining experience.”
Last year, the owner of a business that bought property at the SELECT Restaurant location pleaded guilty to federal charges. The man was accused of fraud and money laundering tied to almost $2 million in coronavirus relief funds, according to GSA Business Report and The State. Prosecutors in a news release didn’t share attorney information for him.
On the brunch list, SELECT Restaurant received national praise after missing out on similar rankings last year. No South Carolina restaurants were named among Yelp’s top places for brunch, 2021 results show.
But more recently, South Carolina dining spots have gotten nods for their pizza, seafood and other dishes, McClatchy News reported.
For the latest list, OpenTable in its news release didn’t share numerical rankings for the restaurants but said the state boasting the most top-ranked brunch spots was California, which had 18.
