A second SC Whataburger is set to open in July. Here’s when and where
Coming two weeks after the Whataburger chain’s first South Carolina location will be another opening, this one in Greenville County.
Whataburger, based in Texas — not associated with the South Carolina locally-owned What-A-Burger — announced this week its first location to open will be in Boiling Springs in Spartanburg County July 15.
The second will be on Woodruff Road in Greenville County, to open July 29.
The restaurant chain, founded in 1950, has more than 1,030 locations. Its entry into South Carolina marks 16 states, which the company is calling Sweet 16.
Whataburger President and CEO Ed Nelson, a Simpsonville, South Carolina, native and Clemson graduate, said having a Whataburger in South Carolina is a dream come true.
“As a native son, I’ve always known that our state’s rich culture and warm hospitality would be the perfect match for Whataburger’s tradition of bold flavors and extraordinary service,” he said in a news release.
He added it feels like a homecoming. He’s worked for the company for 20 years, becoming CEO in 2020.
The company announced a celebration for the first Whataburger in Boiling Springs, including free Whataburger for a year to the first four people in the drive-thru lane on July 15, starting at 11 a.m.
The next 350 guests will get gift baskets, and there will be a party in the parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Whataburger-themed games and prizes, a face-painting station, photo booth, and a Kona shaved ice truck.
The restaurants will be drive-thru only at first with full service in the coming weeks, the company said.
Whataburger locations are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
