Blind dog surrendered when owner couldn’t care for her. Now she gets 2nd chance
A blind dog was surrendered when her owner couldn’t take care of her — and now, she gets a second chance.
After struggling at a South Carolina shelter, Emma the 8-year-old pup has been adopted. The good news came soon after the Greenville Humane Society shared an update about her on Facebook.
“Emma was adopted immediately after posting this,” Emily Zheng, marketing manager for the shelter, told McClatchy News in an April 1 email. “Her new family waited for 30 minutes before we opened to ensure they were the first ones there to meet her.”
Emma is settling into her new home after her previous owner “could no longer care for her medical needs.” The shelter said she arrived in rough shape, with only one eye, which needed to be removed. She also had urgent dental needs.
Emma was nervous at the shelter, but she got a fresh start in a foster home as she waited for her much-needed surgery, McClatchy News reported in late February.
“She is just so loving,” Zheng wrote in an email at the time. “She is a little bit confused right now, but is in happy spirits and loves nothing more than being held and giving kisses.”
At one point, Emma’s foster parents had considered adopting her. But eventually, the shelter turned to social media as it sought an owner with experience caring for her breed, Italian greyhound.
“Emma is fully blind and is searching for a retirement home that will spoil her endlessly,” the animal organization wrote in its March 31 Facebook post. “Emma’s favorite things include mealtime, snuggling in your arms, and sleeping under the covers in her humans’ bed.”
The next day, the shelter shared the heartwarming news that Emma was adopted. The “sweet” pup, whose health has improved, was matched with a family who couldn’t wait to have her.
