Will rain ruin your Easter weekend plans in SC? Here’s the latest weather forecast
Got everything you need for those Easter baskets yet?
The Easter holiday weekend is just around the corner. Soon, families will be preparing large meals, heading out to Easter egg hunts or traveling to see loved ones. Others will simply relax during their extra time off — preferably outdoors.
But will South Carolina weather ruin those planned outdoor family Easter photos this year?
Here’s the weather forecast from the National Weather Service and Farmer’s Almanac.
NWS Easter forecast
Midlands
According to the NWS, the Midlands will kick off the weekend with mostly sunny skies and relatively warm temperatures in the high 80s on Saturday. Expect continued high temperatures in the high 80s on Easter Sunday and Monday, with mostly cloudy skies. The chances of rainfall as of Thursday were nonexistent, the NWS states.
Upstate
The Upstate faces no possibility of rainfall either until Easter Monday, when there will be a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Expect slightly cooler temperatures in the mid-to-low 80s from Saturday through Monday. Also, while skies will be mostly sunny in the Upstate on Saturday, they’ll remain mostly cloudy the rest of the holiday weekend.
Lowcountry
The weather is expected to be more pleasant in the Lowcountry this weekend. The NWS forecast calls for temperatures in the high 70s on Saturday and Sunday and low 80s on Monday. Also, bright, sunny skies are expected on Saturday, followed by partly sunny on Sunday and more cloudy on Monday.
Pee Dee
No rain is in the forecast for the Pee Dee region from Saturday through Monday. Expect warmer temperatures in the mid-to-high-80s farther west in counties near the Midlands like Sumter and Clarendon Counties, but cooler temperatures in the low 70s in the east like in Myrtle Beach. Also, sunny to partially-sunny skies are predicted for the whole holiday weekend.
Farmer’s Almanac
The Farmer’s Almanac extended forecast appears to agree with NWS predictions, calling for “pleasant weather” in South Carolina and the Southeast April 20 through April 23. The almanac doesn’t forecast rain again until April 24 through April 27 — long after Easter has come and gone. It also predicts more stormy weather for the last three days of the month.
Founded in 1818, the Farmers’ Almanac uses a secret formula that includes components such as “sunspot activity, tidal action, the position of the planet,” to predict long-range weather forecasts. The forecasts are typically made two years in advance. Fans of the Farmers’ Almanac have, over the years, calculated that the predictions are accurate 80-85% of the time.
