Will tropical weather development rain out SC July 4th weekend? Here’s the forecast
Some South Carolinians won’t be free from rain this Independence Day weekend, the latest forecasts show.
According to the National Weather Service, much of the Lowcountry and coastal areas of the state will face increasing chances of rainfall from July 4 through the weekend.
There is a low pressure area that could develop into a tropical or subtropical depression near the Southeast Atlantic region this weekend, the National Hurricane Center reported on Wednesday. The chances of formation are currently at 40%, but regardless, “heavy rainfall is possible across portions of the Southeast.”
Chris Rohrbach, meteorologist with the NWS in Columbia, said on Wednesday that it was still difficult to pin down an exact forecast for the state because of the uncertainty of the low pressure area.
“A lot of weather for the weekend will depend on whether that develops,” Rohrbach said.
