A “loyal” dog was rescued and adopted — but now, he needs another new home.

“Meet Wildcat, the hound with the big, floppy ears and an even bigger personality,” a South Carolina animal shelter wrote Sept. 11 on Facebook. “Known as the life of the party, Wildcat wins everyone over with his sweet, social nature and love for treats.”

Wildcat needs a second chance after a journey that started in December. At the time, the dog was found in bad shape in Francis Marion National Forest. He was quickly adopted but was surrendered to the Charleston Animal Society months later in mid-August, shelter spokesperson Kay Hyman told McClatchy News via email.

“According to his previous owners he has shown the ability to escape by bolting out of the door (if he escapes he requires a car to catch him, he does not stop),” Hyman wrote. “While we have not seen anything else here, he may try other methods to get out as well, if given the opportunity.”

For these reasons, Wildcat would benefit from training and a watchful owner. He also likely has a “prey drive,” so it’s best that his next home doesn’t have small pets that he can chase, according to Hyman.

At the shelter, Wildcat has become known as a “fun-loving, loyal companion” who is well-behaved on car rides. McClatchy News has asked for clarification on the pup’s age and is awaiting a response.

“Though he’s brave in many ways, he’s still a baby when it comes to thunder and would love a cozy spot to feel safe,” the shelter wrote. “Wildcat is the perfect mix of playful, cuddly, and charming, ready to bring joy and laughter into any home.”

As of Sept. 12, Wildcat was still in need of a home. Details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at charlestonanimalsociety.org.
