Here are the 35 highest-rated nursing homes in SC in 2026, latest federal ranking show
It’s a difficult decision, putting someone that means a lot to you in a nursing home. And finding the right place to put that person can be even more difficult.
The business is struggling right now, as the number of residents increases while more nursing homes are closing all across the U.S.
The most recent data from 2025 shows that there are around 1.24 million residents in nursing homes across the United States, according to KFF, a leading U.S. health policy tracker. In 2021, the number of residents was only 1.1 million.
Additionally, between 2015 and 2025, the number of nursing home facilities declined by 6%. These factors increase the possibility of nursing homes being spread thin for resources and residents not getting the full attention they need.
And it shows in South Carolina.
Based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ five-star rating system for nursing homes, of the 187 nursing homes examined in SC, 41 have the worst one-star rating.
On the bright side, there are still plenty of options to find quality care. In SC, there are dozens of nursing homes that have five-star ratings.
