Train crashes into tractor-trailer, causes fire & fuel spill, Columbia officials says
A Midlands road is closed Wednesday morning after a train crashed into an 18-wheel tractor trailer, the Columbia Fire Department said.
The collision occurred just before 9 a.m. at McCords Ferry Road, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
The truck went up in flames, but the blaze was put out by the fire department, spokesman Mike DeSumma told The State.
Although it was initially reported that there were injuries in the wreck, both the fire department and South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed no one was hurt.
The crash did cause the truck to spill fuel, and the 4100 block of McCords Ferry will be closed for hours, Master Trooper David Jones told The State.
Pictures of the wreck show shared by the fire department lumber that was carried by the truck spilled along the train tracks.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area in Eastover.
The collision will be investigated by Highway Patrol.
