Fire closes busy road in Lexington during commute, police say

A fire has forced a stretch of a busy road to be closed during the Tuesday morning commute, the Lexington Police Department said.

Old Cherokee Road is closed, from North Lake Drive (S.C. 6) to Pilgrim Church Road because of a structure fire, police said on Twitter. That is near several businesses, including a Walmart Supercenter, The Home Depot, and Publix Super Market.

Police reported the fire and traffic change at about 9 a.m. The road was reopened at about 9:30 a.m., police tweeted.

Information on the number of buildings involved in the fire, and any possible injuries, was not available.

There was no word on the cause of the fire.
