Harley-Davidson rider killed in Lexington County crash, SC Highway Patrol says
A motorcycle rider died overnight after a crash in Lexington County, South Carolina Highway Patrol said Thursday.
The collision occurred just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell said.
The Harley-Davidson rider was heading west on Peach Festival Road in Gilbert before wrecking near Waters Ferry Road, according to Tidwell. That’s about one mile from Gilbert Elementary School, when Peach Festival Road becomes Main Street.
The rider was approaching slower traffic and spilled from the Harley-Davidson in an attempt to slow down, spilling to the ground, Tidwell said.
The motorcycle rider hit the pavement and was not wearing a helmet, according to Tidwell.
The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital in Richland County, and died there early Thursday morning, Highway Patrol reported.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office will publicly identify the motorcycle rider after notifying the next of kin.
No other injuries were reported in the collision.
Prior to Wednesday’s crash, only one other motorcycle rider has been killed on a South Carolina road in 2020, according to the Department of Public Safety. Similar to the deadly wreck in Lexington County, that crash victim was not wearing a helmet, the Department of Public Safety reported.
