Harley-Davidson rider killed in motorcycle collision with teen, SC cops say
A motorcycle rider was killed in a Sunday night crash, South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The collision between a Harley-Davidson and a Honda happened just after 7:30 p.m. on S.C. 49 in Laurens County, Trooper Joel Hovis said. That’s about 70 miles northwest of Columbia.
The Honda driven by an 18-year-old was heading north on the road and was turning left onto Curry Road when the collision occurred, according to Hovis.
The man riding the 2018 Harley-Davidson was thrown from the motorcycle in the wreck, Highway Patrol reported.
The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, Hovis said.
The Laurens County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 54-year-old Kevin Bruce McClain, WHNS reported.
The teen driving the 2003 Honda was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt in the collision, according to Hovis.
Information on possible criminal charges was not available, but the crash remains under investigation by Highway Patrol.
Prior to this wreck, six motorcycle riders have been killed on South Carolina roads in 2020, according to the Department of Public Safety. In those collisions four crash victims were not wearing a helmet, DPS reported.
