Motorcycle rider killed in collision on Midlands road, SC coroner says

A man died in a motorcycle crash on a Midlands road, the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.

The crash happened just before noon Tuesday on Sease Road, near the intersection with Carol Court in Blythewood, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. That’s about 25 miles north of Columbia.

Christopher Whitehead was heading north when the motorcycle ran off the right side of the road, Coroner Chris Hill said in a news release.

The 2010 Honda smashed into a tree and the 54-year-old was thrown from the motorcycle, Miller said.

Whitehead was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

Information on why the bike ran off the road was not available.

The wreck is still under investigation by the coroner’s office and Highway Patrol.

Prior to this wreck, 14 motorcycle riders have been killed on South Carolina roads in 2020, according to the Department of Public Safety. In those collisions 11 crash victims were not wearing a helmet, DPS reported.
