Man killed in Harley-Davidson motorcycle crash identified by Richland County coroner
The motorcycle rider who was killed in a recent crash in Chapin was publicly identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office Wednesday.
Donald Cordy died at a Richland County hospital after the single-vehicle collision, Coroner Gary Watts said. An autopsy showed the 25-year-old Prosperity resident died as a result of blunt force trauma.
The wreck happened at about 3 p.m. on Aug. 1, on Chapin Road, according to Master Trooper David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The crash was near the intersection with St. Peter’s Church Road, which is close to a Publix Super Market.
Cordy was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson north when he ran off the right side of Chapin Road and was thrown from the bike, Jones said.
Cordy was not wearing a helmet, according to Jones.
Information on what caused the Harley to veer off the road was not available, but the wreck is under investigation by Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.
Through Tuesday, 59 motorcycle riders have been killed on South Carolina roads in 2020, according to the Department of Public Safety. In those collisions 41 crash victims were not wearing a helmet, DPS reported.
