Downtown Columbia road closed after power line is knocked down in crash, police say

Part of a busy downtown road was closed after a power line was knocked down in a car crash, the Columbia Police Department said Tuesday.

North Main Street was blocked near the intersection with Miller Avenue, police said on Twitter at about 12:30 p.m. That’s three blocks from North Main’s intersection with Monticello Road.

No injuries were reported in the single-vehicle collision, according to the tweet.

Information on what caused the wreck was not available, and there was no word on possible criminal charges.

A utility pole, along with power lines and traffic signals were in the middle of the road, a police photo showed.

More than 20 outages were reported in the area following the collision, according to Dominion Energy.

Both Dominion power crews and officers were on the scene, police said.

There was no word on when power would be restored and the road would be cleared and reopened to traffic.
