Traffic jam on interstate running through Richland County caused by collision
A Monday afternoon crash on a major interstate running through Richland County caused a traffic jam and injuries.
The collision happened on Interstate 20 at about 1:30 p.m., the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
According to the tweet, a westbound lane on I-20 was closed near Exit 80, which is the junction with Clemson Road on the edge of Columbia.
Traffic was backed up for miles as vehicles slowly navigated through the open lane at the scene of the wreck, SCDOT cameras showed. Emergency responders were on the scene and were parked along the right shoulder of I-20, according to the traffic cameras.
Information on the number of vehicles involved, or what caused the crash, was not available.
Injuries were reported in the wreck, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
There was no word on the number of people hurt, or their conditions.
At about 2 p.m., I-20 was cleared and traffic was flowing smoothly through the area, according to SCDOT.
