SC woman ejected from car and dies after crashing into tree, coroner says
A Midlands woman was killed over the weekend when she was ejected from a car that hit a tree, the Saluda County Coroner’s Office said.
Sarah Nichole Stone, a 34-year-old Prosperity resident, died at the scene of Saturday’s crash, according to Coroner Keith Turner.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 4 p.m. in Saluda County, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Stone was driving a 2006 Scion coupe west on S.C. 194/Denny Highway. Near the intersection with Bridle Path Road the car ran off the right side of the road, the coroner’s office said. Stone overcorrected and the car veered across the road and off the left side, where it crashed into a tree, according to Bolt.
The car flipped over and Stone was thrown from the vehicle, the coroner’s office said.
There was no word if Stone was wearing a seat belt.
Bolt said Stone was the only person in the Scion, and no other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the Scion to originally veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
In addition to the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office, the Saluda County EMS, Saluda County Fire Service, and Saluda County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.
