Woman who died after motorcycles collided on SC road is identified by coroner

One woman was killed after two motorcycles crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Jenny Massey, a 65-year-old Leesville resident, died Tuesday, days after the accident, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said Thursday.

The two-vehicle collision happened Sunday in Aiken County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the Highway Patrol.

Both a 2007 Harley-Davidson and a 2015 Harley-Davidson were driving south on New Holland Road, near Toy Road, when the 2015 motorcycle driven by Massey collided with the other vehicle, according to Glover. That’s in the Wagener area.

Massey was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital where she later died, Glover said. Her death was first reported by the Highway Patrol Wednesday.

Glover said the rider on the 2007 Harley-Davidson was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if either of the motorcycle riders were wearing helmets.

Information about what caused the motorcycles to collide was not available. Ables said both his office and the Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the wreck, and toxicology tests are pending.

Through Sunday, 516 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, and 58 involved a motorcycle, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 20 people have died in Aiken County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 29 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
