Search for driver after deadly hit-and-run crash on SC road, Highway Patrol says
One person was killed Wednesday night in a hit-and-run crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 8:10 p.m. in Florence County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.
A minibike was heading north on Sally Hill Road, and near the intersection with Riverbend Road, it was hit by an unknown vehicle, according to Glover.
The unknown vehicle, that was also driving north, left the scene, Glover said.
The minibike rider died at the scene, according to Glover.
The Florence County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the minibike rider.
Glover said the rider was the only person on the minibike, and no other injuries were reported in the crash that’s still being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
There was no word if the minibike rider was wearing a helmet.

Through Sunday, 747 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 15 people have died in Florence County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 39 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
