Two people killed and 10-year-old injured when truck crashes into tree, SC cops say
Two people were killed in a weekend crash that also left a 10-year-old child hospitalized, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened Saturday in Marion County, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt.
At about 10:20 a.m., a 2020 GMC pickup truck was driving south on S.C. 908 when it ran off the right side of the road and crashed into a tree, according to Bolt.
The driver and one of two passengers died, Bolt said.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victims who died.
A child was hurt and taken to an area hospital, according to Bolt. Further information on the child’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if any of the people in the pickup were wearing seat belts.
Information about what caused the pickup to veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Nov. 10, at least 837 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 13 people have died in Marion County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data.
