Intoxicated teenager caused busy Lexington road to be closed, SC police say

Part of a busy Midlands road was temporarily closed Wednesday morning after an intoxicated teenager crashed a car into a business’ building, the Lexington Police Department said.

Just before 5 a.m., police reported that S.C. 6/North Lake Drive had closed at the intersection with North Church Street following a collision. That’s near Sunset Boulevard, not far from the portion of Lake Murray that’s in Lexington County.

Drivers were asked to detour through the area after a four-door car crashed through the front of the Custom Framer building, according to police.

EMS took the 19-year-old driver to an area hospital, police said. Further information on the driver’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said the teen was intoxicated and will be charged with DUI.

At about 5:45 a.m., the roads were reopened, according to police.

It was not clear when the business might be able to reopen, as photos of the wreck showed significant damage to both the building and the merchandise inside.
