Two people killed in head-on crash that left another person hospitalized, SC cops say

Two people were killed Saturday night in a crash that left another person hospitalized, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Summerville residents Danielle Nicole Huger, 46, and Jesus Carreno, 32, died in what Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell called an accident.

The two-vehicle collision happened in Berkeley County, said Master Trooper William Bennett of the Highway Patrol.

At about 8:40 p.m., Huger was driving a 2017 Dodge Durango west on College Park Road, according to Bennett. Near the intersection with Edgebrook Drive the SUV collided head-on with a 2018 Dodge Ram being driven east on College Park Road by Carreno, Bennett said.

Huger, who was the only person in the SUV, died at the scene, according to Hartwell.

Carreno and a passenger in the pickup truck were taken to an area hospital where the driver later died, Hartwell said. Further information on the passenger’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt.

Information about what caused the vehicles to collide head-on was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through Jan. 5, at least seven people died on South Carolina roads this year, according to the state Department of Public Safety. More than 948 people died in Palmetto State crashes in 2024.

At least 32 people were killed in Berkeley County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data.
