One of the busiest roads in Lexington County blocked by emergency work, officials say

Expect delays.

That’s what West Columbia officials told drivers who are planning to use one of the busiest roads in Lexington County on Tuesday.

Part of Sunset Boulevard will be temporarily closed because of emergency roadwork involving a utility repair, the West Columbia Police Department said in a traffic alert.

Utility crews are working to repair a sewer line at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and West Hospital Drive, according to the alert. As a result, the westbound lanes of Sunset Boulevard are closed, police said. That’s by the entrance to Lexington Medical Center, close to the junction of U.S. 37 and Interstate 26.

“Prepare for delays and try to find an alternate route,” police said on social media.

Officials said that crews are working to restore the regular flow of traffic in the area, but are expecting impacts throughout the day.

At 9:55 p.m., officials said that utility crews completed the repairs and Sunset Boulevard was reopened.
