One person killed in early-morning crash on I-95, South Carolina cops say

One person was killed Monday morning when a motorcycle collided with a pickup truck towing a trailer on Interstate 95, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 5:40 a.m., near the 112 mile marker in Clarendon County, said Master Trooper William Bennett.

Both a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup and a 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle were driving north on I-95, according to Bennett. The motorcycle hit the left wheel of the trailer, then ran off right side of I-95, Bennett said.

The motorcycle rider was taken to an area hospital and later died there, according to Bennett.

The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the motorcycle rider.

Bennett said the Dodge driver, who was the only person in the pickup, was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, or if the pickup driver was wearing a seat belt.

The crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 158 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least three people have died in Clarendon County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were nine deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
