SC woman who died after car crashed into tree is identified by coroner
One person was killed Monday when a car ran off a Midlands road and crashed into a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Pashia Lateasia Guerrero, a 33-year-old Richland County resident, died in what Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker called an accident.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 5:30 p.m. in Sumter County, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the Highway Patrol.
Guerrero was driving a 2014 Buick sedan west on U.S. 76, according to Ridgeway. Near the intersection with Old Garners Ferry Road the car veered off the left side of the road where it hit a tree, Ridgeway said.
Guerrero was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia and died there, according to Ridgeway.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if Guerrero was wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the car to run off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
Through Sunday, 173 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least two people have died in Sumter County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 19 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
