Teen dies in hospital following crash on South Carolina road, coroner says
A South Carolina teenager was killed Sunday in a crash, according to the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office.
Daniel Zenil, an 18-year-old Greenwood resident, died in what the coroner’s office called an accident.
The single-vehicle collision happened on S.C. 25, near the intersection with Beacham Road, the coroner’s office said in a news release. That’s in Ware Shoals, near the Saluda River.
Zenil was in a vehicle that was driving south on S.C. 25 when the wreck happened, according to the release.
Zenil was taken to an area hospital, where he died at 4:47 p.m., the coroner’s office said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the crash, or if Zenil was driving the vehicle, was not available. There was no word if Zenil was wearing a seat belt.
Through March 30, at least 158 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least two people have died in Greenwood County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were five deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
