South Carolina man killed in crash is identified by coroner’s office
A South Carolina man died a day after he was involved in a crash on an Upstate road, according to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.
Matthew F. Patterson, a 46 year-old Westminster resident, died in what Coroner Karl Addis called an accident.
The collision happened at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the coroner’s office said in a news release.
Patterson was on a motorcycle that crashed on Dairy Farm Road, according to the release. That’s in Westminster, not far from the state line separating South Carolina and Georgia.
Patterson was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died at 4:30 p.m. Monday after suffering blunt force traumatic injuries in the crash.
There was no word if Patterson was wearing a helmet.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the wreck was not available, but the coroner’s office said the collision was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, 187 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least three people have died in Oconee County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 15 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
