SC woman was passenger when crash happened at intersection, coroner says
A South Carolina woman was killed Monday in a crash on a Midlands road, according to the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
Carrie Green, a 78-year-old Jenkinsville resident, was the person who died in what Coroner Chris Hill called an accident in a Tuesday news release.
Green was a passenger in the backseat of a vehicle that was hit by another vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 321 Business South and U.S. 321, according to the release. That’s in the Winnsboro area, where several businesses are located.
Emergency responders removed Green from the vehicle and provided medical care before she was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia, Hill said. She died at the hospital from injuries suffered in the wreck, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if Green was wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the vehicles to collide was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, 187 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least four people have died in Fairfield County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 10 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
