South Carolina man killed in crash is identified by Lexington County coroner
One person was killed late Friday night in a motorcycle crash in Lexington County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
David Eric Jones, a 43-year-old Chapin resident, is the driver who died in what Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher called an accident Saturday.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the Highway Patrol.
Jones was riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was driving west on Long Pine Road, according to Glover. Near the intersection with John Kinard Circle the motorcycle ran off the left side of Log Pine Road and crashed into several trees, officials said.
Jones was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, according to Fisher.
Information about what caused the Harley-Davidson to veer off the road was not available, but Fisher said the crash is being investigated by the coroner’s office and the Highway Patrol.
