South Carolina man killed in crash with tractor trailer, coroner says

One person was killed Wednesday and another was hospitalized after a crash that involved a tractor trailer, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Joshua Millard, a 40-year-old Aiken resident, is the driver who died, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 8:15 a.m., said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the Highway Patrol.

Millard was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan east on Rudy Mason Parkway, according to Glover. Near the intersection with Willow Run Road the Chrysler crossed the centerline and collided with a 2024 Volvo tractor trailer that was driving west on Rudy Mason Parkway, Ables said.

Millard suffered blunt force injuries and died at the scene, according to Ables.

The tractor trailer driver was injured and taken to an area hospital, Glover said. Further information on the tractor trailer driver’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if either of the drivers were wearing seat belts.

Information about what caused the minivan to veer left into oncoming traffic was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

An autopsy has been scheduled to be performed in Newberry, Ables said.

Through Sunday, 484 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least nine people have died in Aiken County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 28 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
