20-year-old killed in crash that injured three others, SC officials say

A South Carolina woman was killed Wednesday night in a crash that left three others injured, officials said.

Landis Garrett, a 20-year-old Holly Hill resident, is the victim who died in the wreck, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 6:10 p.m., said Cpl. David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Garrett was a passenger in a 2009 Nissan Altima, according to Ables. The Nissan was driving west on Silver Bluff Road, and at an intersection it was hit by a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was heading south on Atomic Road, Jones said.

Garrett died at the scene, according to Ables.

There was another passenger in the Nissan, and both that person and the driver were taken to an area hospital and were in critical condition, Ables said.

The Chevy driver was injured, according to Jones. Those injuries were not considered serious, Ables said.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if anyone involved in the deadly wreck was wearing a seatbelt.

Information about what led to the collision was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through Sunday, 753 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 19 people have died in Aiken County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 28 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
