Man killed in multi-vehicle crash on South Carolina road identified by coroner
One person was killed Tuesday night when bicycle was involved in a crash with a tractor trailer and an SUV, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Daniel Parker, a 38-year-old Lancaster resident, was identified as the bicycle rider, Lancaster County Coroner Karla Deese said Wednesday.
The multi-vehicle crash happened at about 6 p.m. in Lancaster County, said Master Trooper William Bennett of the Highway Patrol.
A 2013 Peterbilt tractor trailer was driving north on S.C. 522/Rocky River Road and stopped for traffic near the intersection with Firewood Road, according to Bennett. A 2007 Honda CRV and the bicycle Parker was riding were traveling south on Rocky River Road when the SUV hit the bike then crashed into the tractor trailer, Bennett said.
Parker died at the scene, according to Bennett.
Bennett said that neither the tractor trailer driver nor the SUV driver were hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if either of the drivers, who Bennett said were the only people in their respective vehicles, were wearing seatbelts.
Information about what caused the SUV to crash into the bicycle was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
