Woman killed in crash with SUV on South Carolina road, coroner says

A woman was killed Saturday when she was involved in a crash with an SUV, according to South Carolina officials.

Adela Aguilar, a 49-year-old Easley resident, is the pedestrian who died, Pickens County Coroner Andrew Wilson said.

The collision happened at about 2:15 p.m., said Master Trooper William Bennett of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A 2025 Jeep Compass was driving east on S.C. 8 in Easley, according to Bennett. Aguilar was walking east on the shoulder of S.C. 8, Bennett said.

At the intersection with Mauldin Road Aguilar tried to cross S.C. 8 and was hit by the SUV, according to Bennett.

Aguilar died at the scene, Wilson said.

Bennett said neither the driver nor the passenger in the Jeep SUV were hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if either of the people in the SUV were wearing seatbelts, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through March 22, at least 158 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least two people have died in Pickens County crashes this year, and 16 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
