Motorcycle riders die in crash that left other driver injured, SC officials say

Two people were killed Sunday morning in a crash that left another person hospitalized, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Colton Sanders, a 21-year-old Windsor resident, was driving a motorcycle involved in the crash and 17-year-old Thomson, Georgia resident Jasmine Ambs was his passenger, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 10:30 a.m. in Aiken County, said Master Trooper William Bennett.

A 2020 Subaru Outback was driving north on U.S. 1/Jefferson Davis Highway, according to Bennett. Near the intersection with Ackerman Drive the Subaru was turning left onto a private driveway when it was hit on the passenger side by a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle that was driving south on U.S. 1, Bennett said.

At 11 a.m., both the driver and a passenger on the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene, Ables said.

The motorcycle riders were not immediately identified because of burns and injuries suffered in the wreck, according to Ables. Autopsies were performed in Newberry, Ables said.

The Subaru driver was hurt and taken to an area hospital, according to Bennett. Further information on that driver’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the Subaru driver was wearing a seatbelt, or if the motorcycle riders had on helmets, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through March 29, at least 173 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least seven people have died in Aiken County crashes this year, and 23 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
