Man riding in ATV killed in crash where it overturned in road, SC officials say

One man was killed and another person was injured when an ATV crashed on a road over the weekend, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Alejandro Nolasco, a 32-year-old Aiken resident, is the man who died Sunday night in what Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables called an accident.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 6 p.m., said Master Trooper William Bennett of the Highway Patrol.

Nolasco was a passenger in a 2024 Polaris ATV that was driving west on Golf Course Road, according to Bennett. Near the intersection with Golf View Drive the ATV overturned in Golf Course Road, Bennett said.

Both Nolasco, who died at the scene, and the ATV driver were ejected from the vehicle, according to Ables.

The ATV driver was hurt and taken to an area hospital, Ables said. Further information on the driver’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about what caused the ATV to flip in the crash was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

An autopsy will be performed in Newberry, Ables said.

Through Sunday, 195 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least seven people have died in Aiken County crashes this year, and 23 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
