One driver killed while another and their passenger hurt in crash, SC cops say
One person was killed and two others were injured Sunday in a crash on a Midlands road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 4:50 p.m. in Lee County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson.
Both a 2016 Audi A6 and a 2016 Audi A8 were driving on U.S. 401, according to Davidson. Near the intersection with Mt. Moriah Road the cars collided, Davidson said.
The driver of the A8 died, according to Davidson.
The Lee County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the A8 driver.
Both the driver and a passenger in the A6 were hurt and taken to an area hospital, Davidson said. Further information on their conditions was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt.
Information about what caused the cars to collide was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through April 26, at least 249 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
At least six people have died in Lee County crashes this year, and seven people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
