Vehicle crashing into utility pole causes fires and road closures in Columbia

A Monday afternoon crash in downtown caused several fires and roads to be closed, according to the Columbia Fire Department.

The stretch of Hampton Street, between Bull Street and Henderson Street, was blocked after a vehicle collided with a utility pole, the fire department said in a news release. Additionally, the section of Pickens Street, from Blanding Street to Washington Street was closed, the fire department said.

The roads were closed as firefighters battled several small blazes along the power lines, according to the release.
